Paul V. Hollingsworth

Paul V. Hollingsworth, 93, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 14, 1913, to the late Lawrence Adrain Hollingsworth Sr. and Sallie Adams Howell Hollingsworth. He was a highly decorated war hero, having served our country in the United States Army, where he was one of the first on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France at the start of World War II. He was one of the last remaining World War II veterans. He was a recipient of a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Great Hope Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans and a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, Prentiss Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Berta Elgin Hollingsworth and a brother, Lawrence Adrian Hollingsworth II. He was a very kind man and called by many a "sweet gentleman."
He is survived by his four children, Paul Hollingsworth Jr., Sally Morgan, Libby Bousman and David B. Hollingsworth; brother, James Edward Hollingsworth; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
