Shirley McCants 1-29-06


Born Oct. 2, 1926, in Roscoe, she was the daughter of Wilfred C. and Margaret Walker Hollingsworth. In 1941 she married Forrest Logan. On Aug. 30, 1980, she married Vaughn Edward McCants in Mount Pleasant. He died on April 29, 2005.
Mrs. McCants was a cashier for Eagles Food Store for 27 years. She retired in October of 1989.
She attended Yarmouth schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary 10102, and a member of Eagles Aerie 150 Ladies Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and the Retail Clerks Union. She enjoyed going to the boat and dancing, especially polka and square dancing. She also liked country music and loved to ride Amtrak.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Logan of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters, Linda Tickel of Burlington, Kathy Crowl of West Des Moines, and Julie Hearn of Carson City, Nev.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ron Hollingsworth and Don Hollingsworth, both of Mediapolis.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with family meeting friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. McCants will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and First Presbyterian Church.
